Benefits
Feeding your chickens and small animals with this forage mix stimulates their natural foraging instinct as well as giving them the benefits of sprouted seeds which are more bio-available.
Living plants allow chickens to participate in an animal/plant symbiotic relationshop that is as old as time. This contributes to their wellbeing as well as building soil health and humus through the constant action of growth- chomp down - growth - chomp down etc.
Easy to grow
Clucka Tucka can be cultivated in containers, or ideally scattered straight on to the earth where it will eventually be foraged.
It's essential to allow plants to establish before allowing your chickens onto the seeded area. The length of time this takes will vary with season, soil type and moisture availability but ideally you will wait till the average height is 20cm before grazing. To prevent a one-feed wonder, don't let chooks eat the plants to the ground. Instead when chooks have eaten approximately half the bulk, move them on to another area (that perhaps you seeded earlier). This will enable the plants to re-grow so you can feed the area off again.
- Prefers a full sun or part shade position in well drained soil.
- Ideal planting in sub-tropical areas - March to November.
- Grow in a container or sow seeds directly where foraging will take place
- Lightly cover the seeds with soil and water in
- Germination will take approximately 7-14 days
